Sometimes, Diluting Nok-Out or Sniper Is A Good Idea
How And When To Dilute Nok-Out or SNiPER
Both Nok-Out and Sniper are considered to be RTU – Ready To Use – products that don’t need to be diluted. But you may find that there are times when diluting is a good and useful thing to do. This “How-To” document should help guide you if you are thinking about diluting Nokout or Sniper.
SNiPER and Disinfecting vs Sanitizing
Sniper has been extensively tested against various pathogens in lab settings and in those lab tests, Sniper was tested against the pathogen full strength. If you are wanting to disinfect hard, non-porous surfaces use it full strength according to the instructions on the label. You can, however, dilute Sniper by six parts water to one part Sniper and use that solution as a “sanitizing” solution. Sanitizing, in layman’s terms, means that you will kill 99.9% of the germs present with a one minute exposure time. Disinfection means that you will kill 99.999% of germs present with a 10 minute exposure time. (It is 10 minutes because that is how long the lab tests were allowed to run.)
You can dilute Sniper by 6 to 1 when you can be satisfied with sanitizing. This is useful when you are cleaning cutting boards, mopping your floors, for general cleaning and so on.

Eliminating Odors
In general, for eliminating odor, spray Nok-Out or Sniper directly on the source of the odor to permanently remove that odor. Direct contact with the odor source is absolutely required. But what if the source of the odor is urine that has been pulled down by gravity deep in your carpet? If you just start spraying directly onto that spot, using an ordinary trigger-sprayer, most of the little droplets that come out of the sprayer will float on the surface of your carpet. You would have to spray a LOT – REALLY A LOT! – to get Nokout or Sniper to penetrate deep down into those yarns so that it can come into direct contact with anything smelly deep down in your carpet. That could become more expensive than it needs to be. This is a great time to dilute because it gives you more fluid to work with. Dilute either one by 2 parts water to one part Nokout/Sniper and then you will have more cleaning solution that you can spray heavily enough that gravity will pull that solution down into your carpet so that it comes into contact with the stinky stuff down there and do its deodorizing work for you.
The Bottom Line
Your goal is to achieve the disinfecting/sanitizing/odor eliminating you need using the right amount of Sniper or Nokout. As you work with these dilution ratios, you may find that you have diluted too much, Or, that you haven’t diluted enough. The following recipes are guidelines to get you started and you can adjust the ratios to fit your situation. For most cases, diluting Nokout or Sniper is easy and does not need to be precise.
Ratios For Diluting Nokout or Sniper
- For use in a home carpet cleaning machine: 4 parts water to 1 part Sniper or Nokout. See https://nokout.com/use-nok-out-in-your-home-carpet-cleaning-machine/ You may also want to take a look at this article: https://nokout.com/carpet-cleaning-nok-sniper-revisited/.
- For sanitizing your floors: 6 parts water to 1 part Sniper. See: https://nokout.com/sanitize-your-floor-with-sniper/
- For Disinfecting your floors – go full strength with Sniper, see: https://nokout.com/sanitize-your-floor-with-sniper/ .
- For Disinfecting hard surfaces – full strength with Sniper.
- For treating fabrics for odor: 1 part water to 1 part Sniper or NokOut.
- For Deodorizing Fabrics in a Washing Machine – this is easiest in a top loader. See: https://nokout.com/get-rid-of-laundry-odor-with-nok-out/
- Use in a cool mist vaporizer as an air freshener: In general 3 water to 1 Sniper or Nokout. You may want to increase the strength by diluting with less water depending on the situation. See: https://nokout.com/use-a-room-humidifier-to-apply-nok-out/
- For Sanitizing Fabrics – The EPA says that we can only “disinfect hard surfaces” and cannot “disinfect” soft or porous surfaces, such as fabrics. For fabrics, you can “Sanitize”. For a good explanation, see: https://nokout.com/clean-parvo-from-fabrics/
Remember!
If you are trying to disinfect, go full strength – don’t dilute – and keep treated surfaces wet with Sniper for 10 minutes to achieve full disinfection.
Your goal indiluting Nokout is to give you more cleaning solution to work with.
