Get Rid Of Mold Odor In Your Car With Sniper
Does your car have a musty odor? A moldy odor? Mildew? Mold – Mother Nature’s little recycler – can leave really unpleasant odors in your car, and although not all molds are toxic, many molds can elicit an allergic response from some folks that is even more unpleasant than the odors. With Sniper disinfectant and odor eliminator, you can kill the mold and the spores and get rid of that mold odor in your car, truck or SUV – all in one go.
The growth of mold is always a water issue, because without water, molds don’t grow. There are plenty of ways that enough water can get into your car to allow the growth of mold. Usually, the water winds up in the carpet which can include the trunk. If this water is allowed to sit for more than a day or two, mold can start to grow and soon, that odor starts to grow with it. Here’s how to get rid of mold odor in your car.
First – Get Rid Of The Water
Hopefully, your issue is a one-off that happened because a window was left open and a rain shower passed over getting the seats and carpets wet, or something similar. The first thing to do is to dry it out. Remove any rubber mats or floor mats and clean them while the rest of the car is drying. If there is a puddle in the carpet, get towels and start blotting up that puddle. Remove as much water as possible. Check under the seats and in the hard-to-reach areas too. Put fans on it to speed the drying process. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate to help with the drying process. After the carpeting is dry, begin spraying with Sniper. Spray sufficiently to dampen the carpet thoroughly. This will kill any mold and the spores as well as get rid of the mold odor in your car.
If the drying process takes more than 2 days, start spraying lightly with Sniper to slow mold that may be starting to grow, while you wait for it to completely dry. Sniper is water-based and spraying it before the carpet has dried fully will mean that it takes a bit longer to dry, but the Sniper will halt any mold growth that may starting.
Upholstery
If the seats got wet, make sure they get dried and spray them down with Sniper as well. Where fabrics are concerned, it is always a good idea to test the fabric to make sure it is colorfast. Sniper is non-corrosive and although modern fabrics are quite tough and likely to be reliably colorfast, it is always a good idea to confirm this. Wrap a small white rag around your index finger and wet it thoroughly with Sniper. Then rub that wet finger vigorously in some inconspicuous place for 10 to 20 seconds. Examine that place on the rag for any color transfer. If there is no color transfer, you can spray without worry. Make sure the upholstery has dried first, then spray the upholstery wetting it in all the places that got wet. Allowing those areas to stay wet with Sniper spray for 10 minutes will get rid of mold odor in your car and kill the mold reliably and safely.
What if the Car Was in a Flood?
If the car got caught up in a flood and the water rose to the top of the tires, then you’ve got a much bigger problem because floods like that always bring mud and other debris into the car. All that debris is food for microbes and the mold spores will certainly be among all the debris. In this case, you will need to remove the carpets completely and clean the mud out from under them. It would be smartest and best to have the carpet cleaned by some type of extraction method (professional carpet cleaners usually use “Hot Water Extraction” cleaning because it sanitizes and does a good job of extracting non-soluble soils from your carpet). After cleaning the carpet, spray it liberally with Sniper on both sides. Spray the floorboards with Sniper as well. Allow all of it to dry thoroughly and give it the “nose” test for odor before re-installing the carpet. If the carpet is still smelly, you’ll need to spray it a second time. For dense, thick carpets, it may be best to dilute Sniper by half with water and spray quite heavily. Sniper must penetrate deeply into the carpet pile and come into direct contact with the source of the odor to permanently get rid of the mold odor in your car.
My Car Smells Moldy, But There Wasn’t a Big Water Spill
Smaller puddles of water that you don’t even notice can accumulate in your car also. These can create mold issues as well and may be more difficult to locate. The trick is locating the odor source so that you can spray directly on the spot where it is or was wet. But again, you may find that you have a moldy smell but you are unable to locate the spot. In this case, you’ll need to deodorize the whole interior to get rid of the mold odor in your car. Use a small “cool mist Vaporizer” for this application. Put some Sniper in the reservoir, put the unit in the car with the cord hanging out the door and plug it in. Let it run until the reservoir is empty. This will produce a cloud of Sniper that will reach all the nooks and crannies in your car. This is a great way yto treat odors or any kind where the space is small and you can’t locate the source. These vaporizers are very slow, but these little tools can help get rid of the mold odor in your car overnight. It doesn’t get much easier than this!
The Mold Odor is Coming From the AC Unit
As your AC unit cools air, moisture condenses out of the air and this water is usually drained away. If this drain becomes blocked, for some reason, it can become a wet place where mold grows. Resolving this requires you to first off, find out why the water is not draining and fix this. (It’s always a water issue!) Once the water issue is sorted, you will need to get to the coils in the AC system. If there has been microbial growth there, clean away the growths and and spray Sniper liberally. This should both kill the mold growth and get rid of the mold odor, all in one go.
Finishing Touch
Sniper and Nokout both are non-corrosive and can be sprayed on most surfaces without worry of harm. They do require direct contact with the odor source to do their work. Sometimes, locating the source of an odor can be difficult. This, in turn, makes it difficult to get rid of the odor because you don’t know where to focus your cleaning and spraying efforts. If you find that you are left with some bit of lingering odor and you just can’t find the source, there is another method that can help to finally get rid of that last little bit of mold odor in your car. Put some Sniper in the reservoir of a cool mist vaporizer and run it overnight inside the car. It will create a little fog inside the car that goes everywhere and penetrates into cushionns and under seats and other hard to reach places. In the morning, open the doors and windows and let it air out. This will usually clear up any remaining mold odor in your car.

Before Sniper, I used Nokout to remove cigarette smells from a couple of used cars. I would put the car A/C on recirculate and spray Kokout in the intake of the A/C, usually near the floor on the front passenger side. I’d shut everything off and spray liberally into the output ducts. I also lightly sprayed the headliner and carpet. Close the car up and let it set a few days. During this time I would start the car with A/C full on and let it run for 10 to 20 minutes, spraying Nokout if I thought it was needed. I’ve been 100% successful with at least 3 cars.
In May of 2022 I moved in with a woman friend of mine who had a cat. At times during the night while in bed I would get a “whiff” of the litter box. You guessed it, I immediately ordered both Nokout and Sniper. I gave her minimal lessons and now she uses it when she changes the box and other times. I haven’t had any “whiffs” since.
