Rescue That Fine Furniture Find With Nok-Out!
Nok-Out is a water-based oxidizer that eliminates odors that it comes into direct contact with. Sometimes it can be a bit of a challenge to figure out how to get Nok-Out to come in contact with ALL of an odor source. So put on your thinking cap and figure out how to accomplish this and Nok-Out can help you get rid of odor from old furniture.
Here’s How
Before anything else, remember that Nok-Out is mostly water and you need to not do anything that might result in ordinary water damage. When spraying wood, don’t leave puddles for more than a minute or two. Then wipe most of that puddle away and allow it to air dry before giving it the “nose” test to check results. If you have a severe problem, think that you can remove that odor incrementally, rather than attempting to get rid of it all in one go. Gently Does it!
Remove the contents from all drawers and remove the drawer from the furniture. Dampen a soft cloth with Nok-Out and wipe down all surfaces. This is especially important when the odor is from smoke. Tobacco smoke residue can be sticky and clingy and not want to let go of the furniture. Wiping it down thoroughly may be more of a job than you think, but keep at it with the incremental approach. Nok-Out is good at removing odor from smoke.
Spray the interior carefully and wipe it all down. Spray one more time and walk away, allowing it to air dry naturally. Remember to not let it stay too wet for too long to prevent water damage.
Fabrics
You may discover that the lampshade is smelly. Old fabrics are not reliably colorfast, so you will need to test carefully. Take an old soft white rag and wrap a bit of it around your index fingertip. Spray that fingertip until it is wet, and then in an inconspicuous place, rub the wet fingertip on the fabric to see if any color bleeds. If there is no color transfer, you are probably safe. For old fabrics, I think it is smart to take the incremental approach by diluting Nok-Out by 3 or even 4 to one (water to Nok-Out) You may even want to wipe it down several times rather than risking direct spray. Use caution when cleaning old fabrics and you are more likely to be successful at removing odor from old furniture without actually harming that furniture.
The rule for you is that Nok-Out needs a few minutes to do it’s work, but you can’t leave Nok-Out on so long that water damage results. Be patient, be consistent and with a little work, you can remove the odor from old furniture with Nok-Out.
