How To Remove Odor from Concrete,
Tile or Brick with Nok-Out or Sniper
Even When Sealed, Concrete, Tile, and Brick are Like a Big Hard Sponge
It may be urine odor on a hot summer day. The dog has been peeing on the concrete slab by the back porch and now that it is summer, it is starting to stink. Or maybe it is something that spilled and now smells horrible. Concrete, tile, brick and grout can get to be really stinky. With Nok-Out, you can remove odor from concrete or other hard floors successfully, even when everything else you have tried failed.
Concrete is a strong, durable, and easily cleaned semi-porous surface. This material is actually very much like a big hard sponge–it absorbs odors, even if the concrete has been sealed. These odors may come from pet urine, oil spills, food spills, mold, mildew, and many other odor problems. Brick, some tile and grout also absorb odors deep into the pores, making it difficult to remove. With Nok-Out, you can permanently get rid of odor in concrete, tile, brick or grout.
Treating Odors in Concrete Flooring Without Grout
Bear in mind that our products are oxidizers and do their work when they come into direct contact with the odor source. When contact is achieved, that stinky stuff is oxidized, changing it into something that no longer has an odor. Often, that stinky stuff has entered and filled the pores in the grout, tiles or concrete. When you initially treat it, Nok-Out (or SNiPER®) will successfully remove the odor from the surface, but the pores may be so full of stinky stuff that Nok-Out literally cannot get in there and make direct contact, so there may be some small amount of odor remaining. Wait a couple of days, however, and that stinky stuff that has filled the pores will literally rise to the surface, where a second application will remove it as well. (This is diffusion at work!) Follow these guidelines to successfully remove odor from concrete, tile, brick and grout.
- Spray, or pour Nok-Out onto the flooring. Gently agitate with a broom or brush. You are trying to encourage penetration into the concrete with this step.
- Spray Nok-Out into corners, along baseboards, under boxes, furniture, game tables, etc.
- Using a sprayer with a fine mist, spray the air and ventilation system in this area.
- Allow to air dry for up to 24 hours.
- Re-treat, if necessary. You may dilute Nok-Out with water in a 50/50 ratio for this step.
REMEMBER: Sniper® and Nok-Out are oxidizers and only do their job when in direct contact with the source of the odor.
Direct contact with ALL of the stinky stuff is essential to remove odor from concrete, tile, brick or grout permanently.
Remove Odor on Grouted, Hard or Porous Surfaces:
- Follow steps 1, 2, 3 above
- Take a stiff brush, apply Nok-Out, and briskly rub grout, paying special attention to areas where you know contamination exists.
Allow to air dry naturally. Re-spray Nok-Out without brushing. - Allow to dry for up to 24 hours.
- Remember that diffusion will take place. Wait several days and if odor has returned, this is the stinky stuff rising up out of the pores.
Another treatment will take care of it and you should be done.
