Upholstered Furniture Odor

Get Rid of Upholstered Furniture Odor

Remove Odor from Upholstered Furniture With Nok-Out

Maybe it is an old sofa you got from Grandma – and it smells musty.  Or maybe there are pet issues on your sofa – that darned dog!  Of maybe your kid got sick on the sectional.  No matter what the odor,  Nok-Out can make it easy to get rid of upholstered furniture odor.  Here’s how.

First – Understand How Nok-Out Works

As a genuine odor eliminator, Nok-Out permanently removes odors from anything stinky it comes into direct contact with.  So if that sofa smells bad enough that the entire TV room stinks, it won’t do much good to spray the air – that’s not where the odor source  is.  Instead, use your nose and pin down the exact location of the odor source.  For a pet or child accident, that is easy, you likely know exactly where the stink is on that sofa.

Test for colorfastness using a soft white cloth.  Wrap it around your finger and wet the tip.  Rub that wet spot in an inconspicuous place for about 10 seconds and see if there has been any color transfer.  If not, you can safely spray Nok-Out.  Where possible, spray directly on the odor source with an even coat.  In most cases, it does not need to be drenched.  Allow it to air dry and it wouldn’t hurt to put a fan on it to speed the drying.   For most things, this will be sufficient to completely get rid of upholstered furniture odor.

What if I Can’t Find the Odor Source?

This is not uncommon – especially with Musty odors. Musty odor comes from a fungus and in most cases, that fungus is invisible because it is growing deep inside the stuffing. Very common for Grandma’s old sofa! Remember that Nok-Out must come into direct contact with that odor source and if it is a fungus growing deep in all that old stuffing, then you need to take a different approach. In order to get rid of odor where you can’t locate the source, you’ll need to spray the entire sofa.  Hopefully that odor source will be on the surface and a superficial spraying of the entire thing will be enough to remove the odor form the furniture.

If, however, the odor returns after a few days, then the odor source is deeper down and you will need to spray more heavily and try to get Nok-Out to penetrate deeply and come in contact with all the odor source. First, dilute some Nok-Out by 3 parts water to one part Nok-Out – mix well. Start spraying the furniture. Your goal is to spray enough that your dilute mix will penetrate deeply. You may have to spray quite heavily to achieve this. (Spraying may be easiest if you are using a pump-up sprayer. Squeeze-trigger sprayers can wear you out!) It may take a longish time for the furniture to dry thoroughly. In my case, it took almost a week. Your TV room may smell a bit like a swimming pool during this drying time. Wait until it has thoroughly dried and then give it the nose test. If odor returns after a few days – you didn’t get Nok-Out to come in contact with all the stinky stuff and you’ll need to try again. Don’t give up too soon! Nok-Out works and can help you get rid of odor in your furniture successfully!  But it does have to come in contact with all the stinky stuff to be able to do it’s work.

What About a Leather Sofa?

Nok-Out works fine with leather upholstery.  Do test thoroughly to make sure the leather is colorfast!  We also recommend that you dilute by 3 water to one Nok-Out when treating leather.  Rather than get it all in one go, think that you are going to remove that odor incrementally – a little at a time until the odor is all gone.  You may find it easiest to spray a cloth until it  is damp and use that cloth to wipe down the leather. For a fuller treatment plan, here’s an article on how to get rid of odor in a leather sofa.

Can Nok-Out Remove Tobacco Odor?

You bet!  Nok-Out works well against tobacco odor.  If the furniture was 20 years in the home of a dedicated smoker, then you may have to apply more than once to get it all, but keep at it.  Nok-Out is great at removing tobacco odor. Here is another article for you.

Christmas tree and Raggedy Ann

We have an artificial Christmas tree that’s still gorgeous but old. Putting it up always bothers my asthma and irritation from getting scratched is not pleasant. Last year I sprayed the tree and the “old tree” smell disappeared. I had purchased Sniper on Mary Hunts advice and it really took care of the basement (moldy) smell! Great! My daughters vintage dolls with cloth bodies had spots of mold or mildew, these are dolls my grandchildren play with. Oh my goodness! Sprayed the doll’s bodies and yarn hair, and the next day they all smelled great, moldy spots gone ! These dolls were over 30 years old and now look soooo good! Would recommend Sniper for other uses, too. Doggy rug smells gone! Smelly shoe odors gone. Grateful to Mary Hunts column for letting us know. 😊👍⭐️

Sniper Removed Old Water Odors, Mold & Mildew

I have been using Sniper in the Offshore oil industry as both a disinfectant and a deodorizer for years. It has eliminated old water smells of toilets and bathrooms not used in a year where the water sat and molded mildewed and stank. As well as being injected into our old quarters ac vents to prevent mold buildup. Always worked better than anything comparable and well worth the price.

Removed All The Feral Cat Urine

Sniper has been AMAZING. I was able to completely remove all the feral cat urine scent from the carpets, mattresses, clothing, and toys. It worked beautifully and left no smell, no fumes, and didn’t leave any discoloration. Sniper is now my cleaner of choice and I use it everywhere to clean and sanitize as well as freshen the air. I even use it in my daughter’s gym shoes and soccer bag. Thank you so much. Seriously the best product on the market.

Cats get old. Things happen. Nok-Out was recommended to me by a friend in another state. I Will never go to the pet store again to try any other product. Nok-Out is IT! I told my Veterinarian about it. I love how fast it arrives after ordering. I ordered three times because we are still working on issues, but at least the house doesn’t SMELL! Amazing product. My Mildew Stain Disappeared!

I brought in the plants for winter and when it was time to move them back outside in the spring, I had a mildew stain on the carpet. Thank you, Mary Hunt, for introducing me to this wonderful product!

“Nok-Out Saved My New Car!”

Thank you for creating such a great product. I would and will recommend this to everyone I know. My son left raw meat in my car for 4 days and I thought that my new car was ruined, but after talking with you and using the product, I can now get in my car and the only thing that I smell is a clean, disinfected smell! Thank you for saving my new car!

Completely Eliminate a Horrible Smell

Mary Hunt introduced me to Nok-Out years ago and I am still amazed at how it can completely eliminate a horrible smell.

Yesterday I hosed some dust off a plastic laundry basket. I left it outside to dry for a bit and then returned it to the garage.

A few hours later I walked into the garage and the entire place reeked of cat pee! I did not realize that the neighborhood tom cat had come by and sprayed my basket. It was so bad that I was ready to trash it, but I thought I would try to spray it down with Sniper first. I doused it liberally and left it overnight. Ta Da! Absolutely no smell this morning!

Even after all these years, I am still amazed every time your product works on a smell as terrible as cat spray!

Thank you, Ted!

Sniper Eliminated Our Mold Problems!

We’ve used SNiPER disinfectant for several years. It works great. It has eliminated our mold problems and, still, we use it to keep our wooden cutting boards safe.
