Get Rid of Mold in Your Shower With SNiPER
DIY – How to Remove Shower Mold
Mold often wants to grow in the grout between tiles in your shower. This is hardly surprising because of the daily dose of water. It is all too common to find black mold or mildew growing into the grout and then spreading to the tile walls and growing and growing from there. It doesn’t have to be that way. Here’s how to get rid of mold in your shower with SNiPER.
Daily
First, get your shower stall a squeegee. Wipe down the walls after every shower. It takes less than a minute to wipe the walls, any little flat surfaces and then the floor. This little step, taken every day, makes a big difference because mold needs water to get going. Without water – mold will not grow. So let’s deny your mold the water it needs to grow. This is easy, and it works!
Once or Twice a Week
Before you get in the shower, grab your spray bottle of SNiPER and leave it handy just outside the door. After you have squeegeed the shower stall, exit the shower, grab the spray bottle and spray the walls, corners and floor and then walk away, leaving it to air dry. Make one of those two applications on your weekly bathroom cleaning day. On that day, use a scrubber to scrape loose any crud that might be there, wipe that crud away with a rag or paper towel (because that crud is a ‘food’ source for mold), spray one more time with SNiPER™ and walk away, leaving it to air dry. If you do this twice a week, you will never have a mold issue develop. Prevention is key! It’s much easier to prevent than to get rid of mold in your shower. So stop it before it starts and clean up the rest with SNiPER disinfectant!
Why Not Use Bleach?
It is a common idea that chlorine bleach kills mold and at the mere mention of mold, many people run straight for the bleach. But this idea is just not true. Bleach does not kill mold. Let me say that one more time – chlorine bleach does not kill mold. And if that chlorine bleach that you have is more than 90 days from the date of manufacture, it it has already lost more than 50% of its strength. Chlorine bleach will only weaken it, and may – or may not – make it change color. Bleach does not kill spores. Additionally, bleach is unsuitable for indoor use because of toxicity issues. Outside, bleach may be useful because it can cause a color change.
How Do I Get Rid of The Stain?
Sniper kills mold safely, but may not cause the color change – bleaching – that most of us want to see in our shower stall. While chlorine bleach may cause a color change, the use of chlorine bleach inside your home can be a nasty experience and leave you with burning eyes and irritated lungs. These vapors are dangerous to both pets and people.
Instead, you can use ordinary hydrogen peroxide (3% is readily available) and good old fashioned baking soda. AIn a small bowl, add just enough peroxide to some baking soda that you can mix together a thick paste. This non-toxic paste can be applied with fingers or a toothbrush. Apply this paste to the affected areas and allow it to sit for 10 minutes or more. Then use a toothbrush to scrub vigorously using a circular motion. Repeat if any little spots of stain remain. This – or something very like it, is probably what your gandmother did to deal with mold stains. It requires more effort than bleaching using harsh chemicals, but is much easier on your home and your health.
SNiPER™ has an extremely low toxicity rating (the lowest the EPA gives to any disinfectant!) and to use it, you don’t need any special protective gear or mask.
