Get Rid of Mold in Your Basement
DIY Treatment of Mold, Mildew and Fungus in Your Home
Mold growing in your home is scary stuff. Some kinds of Black mold are actually quite toxic! As Mother Nature’s recycler, black mold and mildew can attack and destroy your walls, curtains, furniture. That’s what mold does – that’s what it is good at. Black mold is bad for your home, and bad for your health. Fortunately, there is a solution to basement mold that does not require the use of toxic cleansers. SNiPER Disinfectant and Odor Eliminator kills mold, mildew and the spores, but is itself, not a poison. And it takes away that horrible odor as well. This is what SNiPER is good at! With SNiPER as your black mold removal tool, you can get rid of mold in your basement.
Prevention is Always the Best Option
Mold, Mildew and fungal growths always begin with a water issue. Resolve the water issue and mold won’t grow. Begin by looking for and inspecting leaking water pipes, waste lines, ice maker lines or plumbing fixtures. Black mold can begin growing anywhere that becomes wet from these leaks. Water travels in all directions, up, down, sideways or by wicking into nearby material. Mold and mildew will follow the moisture if the wetness persists for more than 48 hours or so. The actual leak may not be close to where you observe the dripping pipe, etc. Inspect vents, flashing and window wells.
Your basement walls may “sweat” at certain times of the year due to increased humidity levels. This is often hard to see, but is enough to let mold begin growing. Get yourself a de-humidifier and run it during the times when humidity levels are high to limit the moisture available and reduce the sweat forming on the walls. Just managing this one issue can go a long way to keeping you basement mold free.
Get Yourself a Mold Test Kit
If you have more than just a little bit of seasonal mold then it is a good idea to do some testing. Mold test kits are available that detect the presence and identify the type of mold, but they won’t help determine the cause or what to do about it. A good quality test kit can help you decide whether you need professional help or can get rid of basement mold on your own.
How to Apply
Use SNiPER™ Disinfectant spray. It is registered by the Environmental Protection Agency to disinfect the area. You may spray, sponge, or swab SNiPER™ on the surface. Even though SNiPER™ has very low toxicity, some mold spores are highly toxic and you really do not want to breathe in an excessive dose! If you are cleaning a heavy growth, wear gloves and a mask, not to protect you from SNiPER, to protect yourself from mold spores.
The simplest way to treat your basement mold issue with SNiPER is to spray right on the mold. Use a soft scrubber and try to scrub the crud loose. Wipe away any loose crud and spray again. Allow to air dry. For small mold infestations, this is enough.
Recurring Mold Issues From Excessive Humidity
Many people find running a dehumidifier constantly will reduce moisture sufficiently to keep fungus at bay. Finding and sealing all leaks, however, is your first line of attack and defense. Spraying SNiPER™ in the room, covering furniture, walls, ceilings, windows, or any crawl spaces regularly (at least once a month) during months when humidity and water levels are high is also a positive step in stopping mold from forming. The Fogmaster Jr is an excellent tool for this purpose.
A cheaper, DIY alternative is to use a common household vaporizer; it is slower, but performs the same task and is adequate for small to medium size rooms. Put 8 – 12 oz SNiPER in the reservoir, place it in the center of the basement, turn it on and seal up the room. It will run until it runs out of fluid and will then shut itself down. Doing this before you go to bed is a good idea because when you wake up – it will be done! It’s not going to get much easier than this. A little home vaporizer can help you maintain ongoing recurring issues and can help you use SNiPER to get rid of mold in your basement.
