Make Your Carpets Like New Again With Nok-Out!
Carpet gives a home such a delightful warm look and feel! It can be a real pleasure to everyone in the home. But carpets can also suffer from spills, accidents, and although pets are family, they can be really hard on your carpet. Does your carpet have pet odors? Is cat urine making your whole home smell? Did the professional cleaning you just paid for not get rid of pet odors? Non-toxic Nok-Out can remove carpet odor on contact! Often stains come right out also. You can remove carpet odors safely and easily with Nok-Out. And if your carpet needs sanitizing, SNiPER is great for that.
Pre-Cleaning
Locating exactly where the trouble is located is the essential first step. Nokout works when it comes into direct contact with the source of the odor. So if you walk into a room and it stinks because of carpet odor, it won’t do you much good to spray the air with Nok-Out. Find the source of the odor and treat that area and Nok-Out will remove carpet odor for you.
A good way to locate urine odor (from pet or people) is by using a UV (black light) flashlight. Go in at night and shine the light around and urine will glow a pale green. You may also see purple – that is detergent of some sort.
Nok-Out has a ph of 8.5 and likes a mildly alkaline environment. If you have previously used acidic cleansers such as vinegar or citric cleansers, you can help Nok-Out perform better by first neutralizing the acid residue with a mild baking soda and water solution. Club soda works or you can mix a teaspoon of soda into a pint of water. Spray it on the area and allow it to sit for 5 – 10 minutes.
The last pre-cleaning you should do is to vacuum thoroughly. Seventy percent of soils in a carpet are not soluble in water and can be vacuumed up easily. Pay special attention to getting up the pet hair. That hair can be really stinky!
How to Apply
Small Problems
If you catch it quickly, and the odor source is on the surface and has not penetrated deep into the pile, you can spray some dilute Nok-Out right on the spot. We don’t recommend spraying full strength Nok-Out directly on carpet fibers. Allow it to sit for 2 – 3 minutes. Use a cloth and provide gentle agitation of the area. Then use an old towel to help blot up excess liquid.
Bigger Issues
Some pet issues need bigger treatment. If your large dog left a large puddle, then most likely, gravity has pulled that puddle down. However far down that puddle goes, Nok-Out needs to go there as well, because Nok-Out is a real deodorizer that can only do its work if it is in contact with the source. If it is a large puddle, get some old towels and begin blotting up as much of the urine as possible before applying Nok-Out. Dilute Nok-Out by three (or four) parts water to one part Nok-Out and pour it over the area. Allow gravity to pull the solution down and then let it sit for 10 – 20 minutes. Come back later with dry towels and start blotting up the excess. Put fans on it to speed the drying process. Repeat as needed.
Be Aware
Urine is food to many microbes and once they get a hold of it, they can change that urine to ammonia (Ever smell that while cleaning a cat litter box?) Ammonia can leech the dyes right out of the carpet fibers. You may think that you have a yellow stain, but actually, the other colors are gone and that yellow is the only color left. There is no fixing this. It is not a stain.
Using a Home Carpet Cleaning Machine
This is a great idea because it spreads a dilute solution of Nok-Out (or SNiPER if you feel like you need sanitize your carpet) very evenly throughout your carpet. We have a blog article detailing how to go about this here.
