Luggage With a Musty Odor
How to Remove Musty Odor From Luggage
Question: “I recently purchased a vintage suitcase that is in excellent condition except for one thing – it has a musty smell.
How can I remove musty odor from old luggage?”
Answer: Nok-Out can remove musty odor from luggage – old or new – easily. It is non-toxic, non abrasive and non-corrosive.
Nok-Out is a Powerful Odor Eliminator, but Gentle on Your Treasures
Nok-Out is formulated to destroy odors on contact with the odor source. It is a water-based liquid that you can spray onto surfaces and is a gentle cleanser. You can remove musty odor from luggage easily, safely and reliably.
What You Will Need
1. Soft, absorbent cloths
2. Full strength Nok-Out in a sprayer
3. Dilute some Nok-Out 2 parts water to 1 part Nok-Out – also in a spray bottle if possible.
Follow These Steps
1. Remove all debris from the interior and exterior.
2. Begin with the interior of the suitcase. If possible, remove the lining and treat it separately. Fabrics in older luggage may not be colorfast. Test by getting a soft white cloth and wrap a bit around your index fingertip. Spray that fingertip until it is wet with Nok-Out. Find an inconspicuous place on the fabric and lightly wipe the wet fingertip gently on that spot for 30 seconds. Then, examine for color transfer. If there is no color transfer, the fabric is likely to be colorfast.
Spray the fabric lightly with the diluted Nok-Out. Here, we take the incremental approach and get a little of the odor each time you spray rather than all at once. Old fabric does require a bit more care!
3. Use the full strength Nok-Out to spray the shell of the suitcase. Less is better than more. No puddles! Use a soft cloth to wipe it around – bit do not wipe it dry. Allow it to air dry naturally.
4. Leaving the suitcase open, begin spraying the exterior. Fasteners can also accumulate smelly stuff. Spray them carefully, but not until wet. Dampen a clean cloth with Nok-Out. Rub it over the exterior of the suitcase, covering all cracks, crevices, and stitching. Allow to air dry.
A Little At A Time
If the suitcase in question is old, it is likely to be a bit fragile in some ways. Here, we take the approach that we are going to remove musty odor from luggage a little at a time, and do it several times until we have removed all the odor. It is safer and more gentle.
My Luggage Stinks, But is Not Musty and is Not Old
In this case, you can simply bear in mind that Nok-Out does its work when it comes into direct contact with the smelly stuff. Spray thoroughly, wipe, spray again and walk away, allowing it to air dry naturally. Repeat if needed.
Old luggage requires more care because it is more fragile due to age. Nok-Out can be diluted to be especially safe with older fabrics, or can be used full strength. It is easy to remove musty odor from luggage with Nok-Out. Try some today!
